LiveJournal: Designing for Online Communities 

In the vibrant ecosystem of an early trailblazer in social media, I delved into the complexities of digital design and community engagement.

As the Lead Designer, my role was as diverse as the platform. I not only managed LiveJournal’s social media strategy but also led user engagement projects, including contests and promotional activities. My design responsibilities spanned a wide array of communities, from pop culture and gaming to niche groups like LGBT, baking, and crafts. Each community demanded a distinct visual language, and I tailored the UI and visual elements to resonate uniquely with each audience.

Additionally, I crafted a variety of personal journal themes, enabling users to personalize their spaces in ways that reflected their individual styles and preferences. This section of my portfolio showcases the breadth of my skills in adapting to and embracing the diverse requirements of one of the web’s most eclectic social media platforms.

BloomThat: Capturing Floral Elegance in Every Pixel

At BloomThat, a boutique on-demand flower delivery service, my task was to ensure that the true essence of each floral arrangement shone through every image.

As a freelance photo editor, I was entrusted with bringing each bouquet to life digitally. Working closely with the in-house photography team, I carefully enhanced each image for utmost color fidelity and vibrancy, ensuring every bloom and leaf was presented in its most natural and appealing form.

Beyond photo editing, I played a role in web graphics design, applying my refined image-editing skills to create a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing online experience.

Wikia: Designing for the Heart of Pop Culture

In the dynamic world of Wikia, later rebranded as Fandom, I immersed myself in the realm of entertainment and fan-driven communities.

While freelancing at Wikia, my primary focus as a was on crafting compelling web graphics  and ads that showcased and celebrated the unique spirit of a variety of communities. Balancing promotional objectives with creative flair, each design I created was aimed at fostering deeper engagement within these vibrant groups. This experience was more than just about design; it was about understanding and capturing the pulse of pop culture.

INtake: Where Print Meets Digital

As an Online Producer for INtake, a weekly entertainment publication in Indianapolis, I bridged the gap between print and digital, bringing stories to life online.

My experience at INtake, housed within the same building as The Indianapolis Star, was a foundational chapter in my career. As an Online Producer, I worked closely with journalists, gaining insights into the fast-paced world of news and entertainment. This role involved managing online content, ensuring a seamless digital presence for the publication’s print stories. A significant part of my experience was learning video shooting and editing, skills that added a new dimension to my design repertoire. The collaborative environment provided not just professional growth but also personal mentorship, with the team’s encouragement and advice being instrumental in my eventual move to the Bay Area.
